Gingerbread is the most revolutionary of all American cakes, with a rich history in our American culture. I will visit the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia on Dec. 9, for a family-friendly illustrated talk, book signing, and gingerbread baking demonstration from my book, American Cake: From Colonial Gingerbread to Classic Layer, the Stories and Recipes Behind More than 125 of our Best-Loved Cakes.
At 11 a.m., I will speak about the history and significance of baking in America. Afterwards, I will sign books in the Rotunda, outside the Museum store. At 1:30 p.m., visitors can watch as I make Mary Ball Washington’s Gingerbread cake and sample a piece of the cake. And from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. in Patriots Gallery, visitors can star-shaped ornaments from a gingerbread cookie.
